Arjun Reddy Review

Cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini, Rahul Ramakrishna,
Music: Radhan
Direction: Sandeep Vanga
When the film gets over and while you walk out of the theatre have you heard a few people saying “It’s a normal same old story” (No one did for this film). Arjun Reddy is such a film with same old story. Arjun Reddy (played by Vijay Deverakonda, about whom I will talk in a while) is a topper in his medical college and a short tempered guy with zero anger management. He meets a first year girl, Preethi (played by Shalini) and they fall in love. What happens to Arjun after his love failure is what explored in a unique way. So this not a film that you can expect every year. This is a film that has a beautiful narration enthralling you for 3 hours.
The initial scenes when Arjun frequently visits Preethi are a little surprising as Preethi never utters a word whenever he visits her. You start thinking what kind of love it is. But the love that Arjun has on Preethi is explained in one beautiful dialogue (In everyone’s life there will be a person who will cry for our death, she is that person to me). The film has so many beautiful dialogues. I loved the dialogue told by Arjun’s grandmother, ‘Suffering is personal, let him suffer’.
There is a clichéd appreciation for good acting i.e., ‘He has not acted but lived in that character’. I think Vijay truly justifies this statement. Most people will start calling him Arjun Reddy. His character has three shades and his acting is top notch in all the shades. He is one of the purest actor I have seen in recent times. Shalini on the other side does fairly mundane acting in the initial scenes. But later on she just nails every single frame. The interval scene and climax are just treat to watch them act.
Arjun’s friend Shiva (played by Rahul Ramakrishna) is the only guy who could handle Arjun. His comedy brings out instant laughter and his character makes you a lasting impact as Arjun’s character. The film is ‘A’ certified, yet the film had so much sensibility. When Arjun teaches Anatomy to Preethi by asking her which topic is being taught at class. He teaches anatomy of hand, fore arm and moves out silently when the topic is upper thorax. There is another scene where Arjun meets Shiva’s brother-in-law, where he talks filthy about airhostess in the flight he travelled. Arjun slams him even though he is a situation where most directors would have gone a female abusing song.
Arjun Reddy’s character is his attitude. The football match is enough to establish what he is and we can expect from this character. A character with a great attitude, handsome Vijay Deverakonda acting it is just enough for people to go frenzy. Adding to that is Radhan’s exhilarating background score that give you goose bumps along with all the emotions With the background music the scene where Arjun buys a baseball bat and ride his Royal Enfield (along with Preethi) into other college to beat a guy  gives you a prolonged goose bumps.

Verdict: An experience not to be missed.
