Viswasam Review

Cast: Ajith Kumar, Nayanthara, Jagapathi Babu, Anikha
Music: D Imman
Direction: Siva

Veeram, the first film when Siva directed Ajith was my favourite among the three films they have worked together. Vedhalam and Vivegam did not work for me. The films’ emotion did not strike the right chord with me.  All these three films including Viswasam are revenge stories, but Veeram and Viswasam had great emotions behind the revenge.

Siva writes marvellous action sequences and if these sequences are backed by right emotions, the action set piece becomes brilliant. In Viswasam, the fight before interval has an emotion of father saving her daughter, who doesn’t know it’s her father who is fighting. Every fight in the film makes the film interesting and moves ahead the narration.

Siva’s screenplay camouflages the weak character of villain and also emphasizes more on the father-daughter relationship than revenge. Jagapathi Babu has copy pasted his usual acting, which you have seen in all his previous films. Ajith Kumar as Thookudurai was such a fun to watch. It’s been a long time since Ajith played a fun character on screen and his dance in ‘Adichu Thooku’ song was a big surprise. Nayanthara’s role is also good, but not a meaty ones like her recent films.

Viswasam has everything one could expect from a commercial film, except the songs. The songs did not work for me, but I appreciate Siva for making the visuals good unlike his other films. The background score amplified the screen presence of Ajith Kumar and with Siva who knows how to utilise it, Viswasam becomes a superb commercial potboiler.

Verdict: A Superb Commercial Potboiler.
