Thallumaala means ‘Ballad of Brawls’ in English and it’s a perfect name for this film, which is about the various fights that Wazim (Tovino Thomas) and his friends fight. Each fight is interesting, amazingly choreographed and stunningly shot. When Wazim introduces his friends, he says that they became friends due to fighting. There are two fights that’s happening and the editing stitches the two together in a quirky and exciting way. This fight starts the first brawl of the many in the film.
Each stunt has an interesting concept. We have stunt sequences inside a film theater, inside a moving car and one in a wedding hall. In each of the sequences, the cinematography and editing together makes the fight stylish & slick. The theater fight sequence is one of the best stunt sequences in recent times, while the car fight is so hilarious that your jaws start aching from the laughs. The reason behind each fight would be silly in most cases and it adds to the fun.
The background score too adds excitement to these fight sequences. From the title card, Vishnu Vijay uses the sound of a particular thing as the background score. We hear typewriter sounds as bgm during the title credits. We also hear dogs barking and car lock sounds as background scores. Even the songs, each one is unique, groovy and perfectly syncs with the tone of the film.
Muhsin Parari’s non-linear screenplay adds to the madness.The performances by Tovino Thomas, Kalyani, Shine Tom Chacko and every other actor shines in their roles and adds a bit of quirkiness through their performance. Khalid Rahman is in peak control of the form, bringing together all these madness to an exhilarating experience.
