Romancham Review: Romancham is a laughter riot with great characters

Romancham Review

Cast: Soubin Shahir, Arjun Ashokan, Anantharaman, Sajin Gopu
Music: Sushin Shyam
Direction: Jitu Madhavan

The film is set in 2007 in Bangalore revolving around a group of 7 Malayalee friends living together. The film is narrated by Jibi (Soubin Shahir) introducing his friends who are very unique and quirky in their own way. The film is about these 7 friends playing Ouija board and the consequences of it.

The biggest strength of the film is these characters and their unique characterisation. The actors elevate the characters with their fantastic performances. The film’s comedy is situation based and it largely relies on the reaction of these characters to the situations. Each of the seven characters has a moment in the film to make us burst out in laughter. But the character that steals the show is Sinu (Arjun Ashokan), whose role is more like a cameo.

The horror comedy genre isn’t new and it’s almost done to death in Indian cinema. But the director manages to give a refreshing experience. The writing packs back to back comedy scenes and makes the film a laughter riot. There are some smart ways he brings out comedy like the way he used a movie poster that was stuck in their room. There was never a dull moment in this 2hr film.

Verdict: Romancham is a laughter riot with great characters
