Pookkaalam Review: Ganesh Raj delivers yet another feel-good film after Anandam

Pookkaalam Review

Cast: Vijayaraghavan, KPAC Leela, Basil Joseph, Vineeth Sreenivasan
Music: Sachin Warrier
Direction: Ganesh Raj

Ganesh Raj’s debut film, Aanandam, was about a bunch of friends traveling on their first college trip. After 7 years, he is here with his second film, Pookkaalam, which is about an elderly couple, Ittoop (Vijayaraghavan) and Kochuthresiamma (KPAC Leela), where the former is seeking divorce over a love letter. Unlike his first film where the plotline was very generic, here the plotline is unique.

Ganesh presents this unique one liner as chapters: Birth, Growth, Blight & Spring (Pookkaalam). The screenplay is treated in a light-hearted manner with a good mix of emotions and comedy. Basil Joseph and Vineeth Sreenivasan as lawyer and judge respectively, come for a short time but are hilarious on screen. The guy who played as Guinness was also fantastic.

The show-stealers were Vijayraghavan and KPAC Leela. Their performances were heart-warming and made the film charmer. The film works largely except for some sequences in blight chapter which were dull with emotions not working. But the final chapter is so heart-warming that the few dull moments are forgotten. And the music by Sachin Warrier elevates the feel-good experience.

Verdict: Ganesh Raj delivers yet another feel-good film after Anandam
